About Us

The Tomah Journal (1867) and Tomah Monitor-Herald (1880) are the longest continually operating businesses in Tomah and have been a part of the community since shortly after its settlement and founding. Many people are still confused by our newspapers having two different names. At one time, Tomah, like many other communities in the area, had more than one newspaper. Through purchase, one became part of the other, but the individual names were retained. Now the Tomah Monitor-Herald is published on Mondays, and the Tomah Journal is published on Thursdays, and we are part of the River Valley Newspaper Group, which owns newspapers and shoppers serving readers from New Lisbon and Necedah to Winona and La Crescent, MN, from Black River Falls to Viroqua and all points in between.

Our long history in Tomah means we are invested in the community. We are proud to be community newspapers with all the responsibility to our readers and advertisers that title implies. We welcome reader's comments, as well as news and story ideas. We enjoy helping our advertisers grow their business. If you have news and/or story ideas or wish one of our ad representatives to contact you, please call us at (608) 372-4123.
