The Tomah VA Medical Center is located on 174-acres in Tomah, Wis. The Tomah VA serves more than 58,786 Veterans in 16 counties in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The tomah VA has four outpatient clinics located in La Crosse, Owen, Wisconsin Rapids, and Wausau.
The Tomah VA is a 266-bed facility specializing in medicine, mental health and long-term care. Medicine services include acute inpatient care at Tomah and primary care at all locations. A range of specialty services are provided at Tomah and are being migrated to outpatient clinics through on-site and telehealth.
Specialty services include physical medicine and rehab, optometry, speech and audiology, dental, dermatology, podiatry, respiratory, chiropractic, and neurology. Mental health service includes acute and long-term psychiatry and residential care for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder and vocational rehabilitation.
Programs like mental health intensive case management, the psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery center and homeless programs help support the patient's transition into community living. Outpatient services are provided at each location and are being expanded through telehealth.
Long-term care units provide skilled rehabilitation, hospice and psycho-geriatric care. The programs are supported by home and community based services including home based primary care, care coordination home telehealth, homemaker/home health aide, contract respite/hospice and palliative care, geriatric evaluation clinic, community adult day health care, and the community nursing home program.
