The Tomah Area School District has the following extracurricular vacancy for ONE-YEAR beginning in the 2025-26 school year: THS Musical Director
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
The THS Musical Director is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all aspects of the annual high school musical production. The director shall select and retain the rights to the musical with approval from the High School Principal and Activities Director. The musical director shall coordinate and conduct auditions and schedule necessary rehearsals as appropriate. The musical director will work with the Pit Director and Assistant Musical Director(s). They will also engage volunteers and other community support as necessary to fulfill all aspects of production, marketing, ticketing, etc. This person shall report directly to the Activities Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Select an appropriate musical production with the approval of the Principal and Activities Director
- Schedule and conduct auditions to be held in January and/or February
- Schedule and conduct a sufficient number of rehearsals, including choreography rehearsals, in February and March
- Create and distribute a call schedule for rehearsals
- Organize volunteers as necessary to support the production
- Responsible for budgeting and maintaining financial records/cash accountability according to district policy
- Coordinate technical aspects of the production with appropriate district staff
- Coordinate the design and construction of the set
- Enforce student activity and behavior expectations as outlined in the THS Student Handbook
- Attend all rehearsals and performances
- Clear and consistent communication with parents, students, assistant musical director(s), and pit director
- Work with Assist Musical Director(s) and Pit Director to ensure everything runs smoothly
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
- Experiences and backgrounds with vocal music and theatrical performances
