The Tomah Area School District has the following extracurricular vacancy beginning in the 2025-2026 school year:  TMS Solo & Ensemble Band Coach
 
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
The TMS Solo & Ensemble Band Coach supports highly motivated 8th grade band students in preparing for the Wisconsin Solo & Ensemble Festival. Due to scheduling constraints during the school day, this position provides targeted, individual instruction to students working on assigned solo literature. The purpose of this role is to help students develop technical skills, musical accuracy, and confidence while preparing their selected solos.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Work with 8th grade band students on assigned Solo & Ensemble literature
· Provide individual instruction focused on technique, rhythm, tone, articulation, and musical expression
· Support students in practicing and refining solos selected by the TMS band staff
· Offer feedback and instructional strategies appropriate for middle school musicians
· Maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment for highly motivated students
· Communicate progress and concerns with TMS band staff as needed
· Follow school expectations and schedules while working within the school day


Schedule:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
8:32–9:12 AM


Instruments Served May Include:
Flute, Saxophone, Trumpet, Euphonium, and Percussion



REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

· Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
· Ability to read music fluently
· Proficiency on one or more band instruments (flute, saxophone, trumpet, euphonium, and/or percussion preferred)
· Ability to work effectively with middle school students
· Basic understanding of Solo & Ensemble performance expectations
· Ability to provide constructive, age-appropriate feedback
· Willingness to collaborate with TMS band staff
· Reliable and punctual for scheduled morning sessions
