Middle School Counselor (Grades 6-8)
Tomah Area School District is seeking an innovative Middle School Counselor who can work collaboratively with colleagues, develop positive relationships with students and parents, and build partnerships with the community. The School Counselor provides a wide range of services and supports to students in grades 6-8 in the Tomah Area School District’s middle school to help students resolve such personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with academic achievement, with their adjustment to school, and with their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them; to effectively work with school officials, parents and community agencies in providing appropriate services for children with social/emotional problems. The position facilitates small group and classroom lessons, enrolling/registration of new students (including orientation/tours), character education programming, providing parental education, staff in-services, and conducting home visits. Knowledge of and ability to participate in the special education evaluation process is vital. Candidates must have knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI or ProACT) strategies and techniques, or willingness to be trained. Background in mental health, PBIS and RtI is also preferred. The ability to apply the knowledge of the characteristics of adolescents is critical. Must be computer literate and have the ability to adapt to and use the district's computer system.
This is a full-time position beginning immediately. Co-curricular coaching and advisor positions are available.
Qualifications: Must have, or must receive prior to the first day of work, appropriate licensure for the position as determined by state law and the District.
