The Tomah Area School District has the following extracurricular vacancy beginning in the 2024-2025 school year: TMS Science Club Advisor
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
The Science Club Advisor is responsible for the creation, implementation, and supervision of Science related activities as well as Science Olympiad work that takes place while students meet during established meetings. The purpose of this club is to offer a place students can foster the enjoyment of being challenged through Science related activities and have the opportunity to compete in the Science Olympiad.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Extend students’ scientific knowledge in engaging and hands on ways
• Work with the Science Olympiad advisor to support students who are competing
• Lead students in highly engaging game-like activities with the group specifically looking to incorporate Science concepts and skills
• Seek and implement one community event or community service opportunity during the school year making the connection how Science relates to the everyday lives of students and the community
• Club meetings would take place at least once monthly from 3:30-5:00pm
• Select and give advance notification of all meeting dates to members and main office personnel at the beginning of the school year (calendar)
• Maintain financial records (as needed)
• Enforce student activity handbook expectations
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
• Preference will be giving to those who:
- Have experience in working with middle school aged students
- Have a background in Science either professionally or personally as pertains to this position
